2021 Raven Story Forever Stamp

The 2021 Raven Story Forever Stamp brings a Northwest Coast Indigenous story and a contemporary Tlingit/Athabascan artist’s work to U.S. postage. Rico Worl’s Raven design

USPS announced that the stamp would be unveiled July 30, 2021, at the Sealaska Heritage Institute in Juneau, Alaska. The official Raven Story release identifies Rico Worl as the Tlingit/Athabascan artist and Antonio Alcalá as art director. USPS issued the design as Forever postage in panes of 20.

Worl used formline, a traditional design style of the Indigenous peoples of the northern Northwest Coast. The image captures Raven leaving his human family and beginning to transform back into bird form. It draws on a traditional story in which Raven releases the sun, moon, and stars. This cultural context is central to the issue and should not be replaced by generic “black bird” language.

Choose a displayed sheet bundle

• 5 sheets / 100 stamps for a focused correspondence project or modest design collection.
• 25 sheets / 500 stamps for a larger event, organization, or repeated mail stream.
• 50 sheets / 1,000 stamps for higher-volume use with controlled storage.
• 100 sheets / 2,000 stamps for planned production where staff can receive and reconcile valuable postage inventory.

Quantity is not a postage calculation. Before applying stamps, complete one envelope with every insert and closure, then verify its weight, size, thickness, flexibility, and destination. A rigid, square, thick, oversized, or heavier piece may require a different amount of postage.

Respectful uses and handling

The design may be chosen for correspondence related to Alaska, Native arts education, cultural programs, museums, storytelling, books, or personal collections. When describing it to recipients or customers, use the artist and cultural attribution from the USPS source rather than inventing symbolism. Keep the stamp sheets clean and flat, and avoid moisture, high heat, or bending that can damage the adhesive backing.
